Promoted from General Shift Manager to Depot Manager following my successful work across the business, my priority in this role has been building relationships with all workers at this key site. I have brought stability to the team through a more efficient and robust rota, a new leadership team structure, and the reintroduction of safety tours. I also work closely with our commercial team to identify opportunities for growth.I have improved our performance in KPIs (including picking and load issues and driver issues) by improving basic working habits, creating standard driving routes, and reducing issues with high priority customers. I have introduced Standard Operating Procedures to reduce inconsistency in ways of working and all staff have been trained on these. I have also reduced absence from 4.1% to 1.5% since my arrival through better performance management procedures and increased engagement across the team.

I was promoted to General Day Shift Manager and worked closely with our Operations Manager and Group Logistic Director to take steps towards a Warehouse Management System, creating Locations and Item Catalogues for our 4000+ in stock items. This assisted in reducing complexity in our warehouse operation, increasing productivity and cost saving in the Operations Team and moving us closer to achieving perfect scores on our KPIs. I quickly identified the need to up-skill the team and a system of practice was implemented, along with a refocus on health and safety, which had been compromised during the rapid growth of the company.I was also responsible for training the Supervisors and Team Leaders on KPI trackers, managing performance and attendance, successfully completing the safety tours I introduced as supervisor, and dealing with disciplinary matters.

Working in multiple roles during from 2010, I spent a number of years as supervisor across various shift patterns and locations.I was tasked with increasing productivity to the operation, which I achieved through the introduction of KPIs.Following the difficult opening 6 months of a new depot, I was asked to also manage this site. I mapped out a staged process of progress to put the basic key activities of a night shift in order. This was implemented alongside up-skilling the Night Shift Supervisor and his Support Team and introducing KPIs to manage progress.I managed a team of 45 people at this time and we had recently seen a large turnover in staff, so it was necessary to rebuild the team. I created an appealing package to encourage a high standard of applicant. I implemented a rolling rota to both meet our nightly business resource requirements and increase visibility of work and fairness of opportunity for the workforce. My key deliverables in this role were: making time-critical decisions; showing confidence in handling difficult disciplinary procedures, including dismissals; delivering a decrease in overtime costs across three sites; creating a training matrix to up-skill my staff; driving health and safety improvements through safe systems and work procedures, introducing safety tours, and creating a competency system; and introducing staff feedback and engagement processes to build morale.
