I currently work on the frontline as an emergency care assistant responding to 999 calls with an ambulance clinician. I work shifts both days and nights on a relief rota. I work with a variety of people from fellow ECA's/EMT1 as part of a LAT crew, and with EMT2/AEMT's and paramedics as part of an emergency crew. My role is to support my clinician, this come in a variety of ways from driving, carrying out observation, assisting with manual handling tasks, and any other tasks they require on the job.

West Yorkshire

I work bank/casual hours for Yorkshire Ambulance Service.My normal role involves transporting of patients into and out of hospital. This may be outpatients or admissions.From time to time I cover for staff of sick or on holidays on the discharge services out of Bradford, Airedale and Wakefield. I do alot of moving and handling of patients on this side of the service. We encounter some very poorly patients who may be end of life.As if late I've been covering overtime Shifts in South Yorkshire at stations in Longley and Rotherham working on LAT (Low acuity transport) working on frontline ambulances doing GP referrals, hospital transfers and end of life. This side of the job is very different, the range of patients and types of jobs can vary greatly. You could be doing a nice straight forward transfer from NGH to RHH or assisting on a cardiac arrest.

Leeds/Bradford

I worked a secondment within A&E responding to 999 calls for elderly falls.Our calls were first triaged by Paramedics in clinical hub and then we were dispatched to the detail.We were given top-up skills for fall awareness and making referrals. Patient assessment skills doing baseline Obs (pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, temp, BM to find NEWS score). I worked as part of a two man team on an RRV. This also involved at times doing SBAR handovers to crews when we at times required back up.We also had further training and moving and handling equipment using slide sheets and mangar elk.We were also used in other capacities we assisted emergency care practitioners with falls also to save a paramedic crew for other jobs.
