As a games user experience researcher I use my background training and experience in research methods to plan and carry out focused research projects to provide actionable insights to our customers. Our games user experience customers range from Indie developers to AAA publishers and cover a broad spectrum of game genres and platforms.

As co-founder of a small tech-for good start up, by design and necessity, I have learnt a great deal across a spectrum of roles. I have had app developer experience, for iOS and Android, across the development lifecycle, from estimating cost, providing quotes to the customer, wire-framing, designing prototypes, iterative design in line with customer feedback, UX, testing, deploying to app markets and maintaining apps. I have worked with customers on a variety of projects, including designing research tools to collect data and training games based on theories of psychology to significantly change real life user behaviour, which has then been verified by research. I have also had experience with business management, customer relations, social media marketing, grant-writing, writing app documentation and pitching. In total I have completed and deployed 5 android apps and 3 iOS apps in a professional capacity as part of a small team.

I worked independently on an exploratory study of person-centered care in a community weight management clinic. I designed three complementary studies using quantitative and qualitative methods. I managed the project plan, ethics applications and research budget for the duration of my studies. I identified and liaised with a weight management clinic and negotiated access to the clinic. I carried out ethnographic research to explore the norms and way of working of the clinic, the staff who worked there and the people attending. I carried out semi-structured interviews with staff; longer narrative interviews with attendees; attended a group programme lasting 14 sessions and designed and prepared a quantitative study to collect exploratory data assessing the experience and outcomes of people attending the programme.

I worked on a number of research projects including evaluating mental health services; evaluating counselling services and trialling an intervention for people with debt and depression. The skills and experience that I further developed included writing academic reports and articles for publication; working as part of a multi-disciplinary team across multiple sites; research interviewing; using qualitative and quantitative methods to collect and analyse complex data and giving presentations to diverse audiences.

I carried out person-centred assessments including assessment of risk with people with common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. I made appropriate referrals to other healthcare services when required and signposted to alternative services as well. I delivered evidence-based 1-1 and group interventions with a variety of adult clients from different backgrounds and circumstances. I liaised with a range of healthcare practitioners including family doctors, community mental health teams and school nurses.

I wrote applications for research grant funding; carried out quantitative and qualitative analysis and wrote papers for publication. I was also involved with a project to validate an emotional processing scale into different languages and liaised with researchers and practitioners from many different countries.

I assisted clients recovering from serious mental health illnesses including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in a supported housing setting. I kept accurate and concise records of client activity and progress and worked collaboratively with clients to increase their inclusiveness and independence in the community.

I carried out 1-1 and group work with people with common mental health problems. I launched an initiative in collaboration with the local library services and family doctors to purchase, stock and signpost self-help books based on cognitive behavioural therapy and other evidence based therapies at the local libraries throughout Somerset. I engaged family doctors and other healthcare practitioners to signpost people with common mental health problems to use this resource.

I worked in a residential setting for adults with autistic spectrum and life-long learning difficulties to improve their quality of life, their inclusiveness and independence in the community. I carried out risk assessments and worked with service users, families and key workers on their care plans.
