    Durham, North Carolina, United States
  • University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill
    Research Assistant Professor
University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill 2008 - Nov 2021
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States
Headed small team of researchers to build and test novel fluorescent tools to monitor protein activation in living cells, obtained funding for self, and wrote core sections for large multi-lab grants to fund project.Guided research of post-doctoral and graduate student researchers.Built large plasmid library of biosensor candidates for multiple protein targets.Used high-throughput microscopy to test candidates using specific cell-based assays for each target. Validated hits using in vitro and cell-based assays to demonstrate correct function and minimize off-target and cell perturbation effects. With collaborators, used MATLAB based tools to quantify live-cell imaging results obtained with novel tools to provide high quality statistical analyses of signaling pathways.Other projects included using fluorescent tools to investigate signalling in primary endothelial cells and using cryo-electron microscopy together with fluorescent biosensors. Published as lead author in Nature Chemical Biology and PNAS.
  • University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill
    Postdoctoral Researcher
University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill Jan 2004 - Apr 2008
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States
Used RNAi to screen for novel regulators of C. elegans gastrulation. Lead candidates were further analysed using light microscopy, ICC, and CRISPR to elucidate protein function. Published as lead author in Current Biology.
