I worked in the Molecular Oncology lab with a focus on DNA sequencing. Much of the experience I have from the lab is in pyro sequencing, sanger sequencing, and beginning this year next gen sequencing. I have helped in some of the validations of new processes and the continual improvement to the lab.

Taylorsville

I validated the sterilization of medical devices. I inoculated the devices with a bacterium and put it through the sterilization process. I then put the bacterium into media to see if it grew.

Logan Utah

I studied the DNA repair process homologous recombination. Specificaly, I was determining the affect that the Shu complex has on Rad51 dynamics. In homologous recombination, single stranded DNA is coated with Rad51 filament to stabilize it. A stable Rad51 filament encourages homologous recombination, while an unstable filament will promote the single strand annealing pathway. It was known that the Shu complex promoted homologous recombination, but we were trying to determine how it interacted in the system. I presented my work in both a written report and as a poster.

I worked in the home health and hospice part of Sunshine Terrace. I would come to people's home that needed assistance and help them with basic functions of living like bathing and eating.

Greater Salt Lake City Area

Project Reality is a drug rehab. I ran the tests to determine if the clients had drugs in their system and how much. I helped the clients fill out paperwork and watched them leave a sample.

Logan Utah

I studied a surfactant produced by the bacterium Pseudomonas lurida. I determined the affect on the surface tension of water, the toxcicity to some microbes, and the affect in swarming motion of some microbes. I presented my work in both a written report and a poster presentation.
