At CDI, I was contracted to the Hilton Hotels account where I served as Sr. Database Administrator. My duties included but were not limited to Monitoring and maintenance of CDR operation utilizing primary/target replication w/two primaries & 8 replicated servers, address indexing & space issues as they arose, monitor daily availability & performance of all servers, assure valid archives, periodically restore production instances to development, etc. This was accomplished on Solaris & Linux operating systems on Informix 10.00.FC11 & 11.50.FC6.

Serving as Sr. Informix DBA for TransWorks, a major transportation Software Company, responsible for over 2 Tb of production data stored in Informix 11.50.FC5 database instances on AIX 5.3 servers. While in this environment, I daily utilize SQL, Stored Procedures, Triggers, Views, & HDR. Major duties listed below are (but not limited to):- Perform advanced level of tuning on all servers with emphasis on production. Over 50 database servers total. Emphasis places on disk structures, configuration of database server, and indexing strategies.- Day to day problem diagnosis and resolution of all database related problems.- Continuous monitoring of security issues.- Archival scheme.- Provide Sr. level guidance to Jr. DBAs as well as assist in development issues. Consists of identifying & addressing problem areas for individuals as well as overall companywide tasks.- Review, correct, and apply all database changes both during and in between release iterations. Includes follow up with developers on best practices for database alterations.

During this tenure, I managed all technical and business aspects for Sony Electronics Inc. located in Bentonville AR.; I directly supervised 14 Tier 2 and 3 level support engineers along with an outsourced staff of Tier 1 engineers located overseas.I was responsible for all backup and recovery issues pertaining to any of the 2200 stores assigned to Sony for this purpose. This equated to over2 million actual backup jobs ran weekly with a 99.9% daily success rate.I directly managed a project to replace existing h/w used in this endeavor from its conception through it's fielding along with all day to day activities of the business and have since managed an equipment replacement project to upgrade to a tape-less solution. I undertook this task when daily failures exceeded 1000 abends per day and now have less than 30. During this entire tenure, Sony had zero (0) instances of data loss for the customer on any business critical computer.

During my tenure at IBM/Informix, I held two positions: RAS Engineer - This was a traveling position in which I traveled to many Fortune 500 companies for the purpose of resolving serious database issues with the company's largest customers as well as settling political issues between the companies. I specialized in database problems that prevented access to data and down systems as well as archive and recovery issues. I resolved issues with databases that were unresolvable in lower echelons of the support organization and trained upcoming engineers in these techniques. Down Sysems Engineer - I worked out of the Lenexa KS office and resolved both down system situations as well as escalated cases. This included root cause analysis of these cases. I developed and presented training courses to both support and customer personnel on the following topics (Informix Databasr Administration, Advanced Informix Database Administration, Advanced Troubleshooting, & Archine and Recovery Procedures).

This tenure was divided into two job skill categories.Informix DBA - I served as database administrator for an Informix Online system running on a Unix platform. I performed all DBA activities for this Dept. of Army procurement system with no loss of uptime logged. During this tenure I upgraded the Informix system from ver 4 to 5. I also trained other personnel in the duties of the DBA and transitioned them into the role as I was leaving.Computer Systems Programmer - assured that vital processing was accomplished in a timely manner and performed all recoveries and file/database rebuilds associated with the above. I wrote ad-hoc programs as necessary in C, COBOL, RGP III as necessary to accomplish these tasks.

During this tenure, I was a computer programmer/analyst responsible for implementing a new payroll/personnel system for the hospital. This included installing the new system, writing data conversion utilities (RPG II to COBOL), actually getting the data converted and loaded, and maintaining the new system.

During my enlistment in the Army, I held two jobs. The first enlistment was in the 7th Special Forces Group, Airborne (Green Berets) where I trained and performed missions according to the orders of my superiors. My second enlistment was to become a computer programmer/analyst in which I was a member of the executive software branch (systems programming). I developed disaster recovery utilities and processes and put them in use whenever necessary. I also headed up an application responsible for munitions locations throughout Europe and maintained that application and it's associated data.
