Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital NHS FT is one of country's biggest and most well known hospital trusts. The Telecommunications Section of the Customer Services Department handles all voice traffic for Guys and St Thomas' (including the Evelina Children's Hospital) and other trusts including University Hospital, Lewisham and The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street.It was whilst with GSTT, that I gained experience of working with a skills based call routing system and direct to headset call handling (with all call recording)In addition to call handling of inbound and outboud traffic (including Emergency Calls). I also undertook pager fault detection and resolution, programming replacement pagers where necessary.The Customer Service Team was also responsible for logging payroll quires on behalf of the trust.I also took part in the Appointment Reminder Service - reminding patients of their appointments

Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester

Handle internal and external calls from members of the public and health professionals. Answer emergency calls (2222) and "Fast Bleeping" where necessary. Pager fault detection and resolution. We also monitored medical gas, intruder and panic alarms. As UHSM is the closest hospital to Manchester Airport we received "Airport Stand-by's and declared incidents" This is where an aircraft is experiencing difficulty during landing or take off and there is potentially or an actual need for medical services to be deployed.Out of hours the switchboard was responsible for calling in the Cardio-Theatre and Cath Lab team to perform emergency procedures and transplants.Whilst at UHSM, I worked on two directories projects, the first was to prepare from scratch a display advert for inclusion in the South Manchester BT Phone directory, showing direct-dial phone numbers for both the Withington and Wythenshawe sites. The second project involved working on a printed version of the internal phone directory for the Trust which had to be prepared within a very short time frame following the relocation of many services from the Withington to the Wythenshawe site.

I worked within the General Medical and Nephrology department. I undertook a wide range of general admistrative duties including, arranging appoitmtments, patient transport and procedures for patients to undergo. In addition I was also responsible for filing results and other documentation in patients casenotes and ordering clinical and non clinical supplies for my areas

In October 1992 I joined Trafford Council's YTS scheme based within the Sports Development Section of the Environment & Leisure Department. Whilst there I undertook a variety of general administrative tasks. I also have the opportunity to develop my knowledge around certain issues, in particular disability sport and inclusion.I worked on a number of projects (with others) whilst in the department including the development of a disability sport strategy and a Greater Manchester wide directory of disabled sports clubs. This involved working closely with the Sports Development Sections of the 10 local authorities that make up Greater Manchester and various voluntary organizations
