Dan Ruth is a Producer, Actor, Writer and Theatre Director who has called New York City his home since 1993. After years of working in the restaurant/bar industry, Dan has returned to his performance career with the critically acclaimed, autobiographical "A Life Behind Bars," his latest biting & funny original solo work about the New York City bar/service industry and alcoholism. The show premiered in 2015 at Dixon Place NYC & was followed by sold-out runs in 2016 in Brooklyn, Richmond, Va and at The United Solo Festival in NYC, where he was honored with the 'Best Autobiographical Show' Award. Ruth continued honing the work and in 2017, moved the show to his new home, The Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC. Ruth sold our runs in both the spring and fall of that year.In January of 2018, Dan made his Los Angeles debut with "A Life Behind Bars" in association with the Whitefire Theatre Solofest 2018 in Sherman Oaks. On March 12th, Dan was honored with the 2018 Bistro Award for 'Outstanding Solo Play’ at The Gotham Comedy Club and later in February, he was honored with the '2018 Martha Hill Newell Playwright Fund Award.' On March 28th, Dan captured the 2018 MAC Award for ‘Best Spoken Word Artist’ at B.B. King’s in New York City’s Time Square. Dan returned to Los Angeles for the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival, where he was honored with a 'Hollywood Fringe Festival Producers Encore Award.' He returned to LA in July to perform once again. In 2019, Dan took the show to Carnegie Stage in Pittsburgh, PA where he enjoyed a sold-out run and his first NPR interview. He is slated to perform "A Life Behind Bars" in NYC one last time at the prestigious City Winery in Soho on April 1st, 2019 and is scheduled to announce an entire new show which he hopes to premiere in NYC in the fall of 2019.Dan is a coach, collaborator, director and a lover of beautiful, old things and all things rock & roll. Dan currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
