Leadership Context: Hired to take over responsibilities for a retiring incumbent. Oversee the Emergency Data Distribution Network (EDDN) at the EROS Facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. EDDN is used by the US Geological Survey, other government entities, and foreign governments to receive satellite messages containing real-time water, seismic, & weather information.Span of Control: 3 Team Members & Multiple Engineering CompaniesKey Achievements:1. Manage a mission-critical, 24x7x365 system, delivering +99.9% uptime over the last 10 years.2. Developed an extraction, translate, & load system using Perl that moved legacy data into a new Oracle aggregation database. (System is used daily by over 45 Water Science Centers around the country).3. Member, and former Lead, of the Satellite Telemetry Interagency Working Group—a user group for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Data Collection System (DCS). 4. Designed an information website to provide data & system status to users within the Western Hemisphere **(https://eddn.usgs.gov)
