Having been a volunteer performer in the Pandemonium Section of Danny Boyle's London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, as well as being an Athlete Marshal in the Closing Ceremony, a group of volunteers decided to keep drumming together. Since our first performance at the Standon Calling Festival in August 2012 we have performed at over 150 events including the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium, three times at the London New Years Day Parade, The 2014 FA Cup Final, London Marathon, The 2014 Conference Play-off Final, The 2014 and last ever Heineken Cup final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. We've performed at concerts, festivals, fayres balls, parades and many other events both large and small for various charities and good causes. We've also won awards - The 2013 Mayor's Special Achievement Award by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson at the Team London Awards and also the 2014 Epic Award for England by the Voluntary Arts organisation.On a personal note, I have been privileged to be able to lead and conduct the drummers in some of these events as well as helping behind the scenes with the organisation and logistics of such performances liaising with event organisers, movement and performance co-ordinators, technical staff and performers from our and other organisations. I have also contributed to the group by making and repairing our drums, sticks and straps, designing our logo and producing banners, business cards and clothing for group members.I have also organised drumming workshops for fellow London 2012 volunteers who performed roles other than drummers. This included ceremonies performers and Games Makers.I have also gained a lot of experience in event planning, logistics and movement, liaising with event organisers, listening and following plans and advising on how to get maximum effect from performance groups.
