I oversee the administration, selection, awarding and programming of the University’s merit scholarships as well as the process for awarding over 1200 institutional need-based scholarship funds.I work closely with the Office of Admissions, the Honors Program, the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, as well as both the Arts and Sciences Foundation and the UNC Development Office, to achieve the University’s recruitment goals.I recruit faculty to serve on scholarship selection committee and to act as mentors to scholars.I develop enrichment opportunities for scholarship recipients as part of the Scholars Program. This includes securing funding for experiential learning and other features designed to create a community of scholars on campus.I help shape the University’s scholarship policies and objectives, together with the Associate Provost and Director of the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid.I provide advice and guidance to other offices and organizations in such matters as fundraising, donor relations and scholarship-related practices. I supervise a current staff of two full-time and three part-time employees.

I teach four levels of Dutch: Beginning Dutch, Intermediate Dutch, Dutch Conversation and Composition, and Introduction to Dutch Literature. I have secured Dutch as a regularly offered part of the curriculum.I serve on honors and dissertation committees.I hosted the 14th Interdisciplinary Conference on Netherlandic Studies in Chapel Hill, with sponsorship of the Center for European Studies, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Nederlandse Taalunie in June 2008.I promote the teaching of Dutch language and culture via the American Association of Netherlandic Studies, where I serve on the Executive Board.

I taught all levels of German language acquisition, developed teaching materials, and was responsible for test writing, evaluation and grading of both written and oral work. I served as a section leader, overseeing other teaching assistants and fellows.

I coordinated applications from more than 70 visiting international students each year, working closely with counterparts abroad and with the International Student Services Center.I ensured the timely processing of admission and visa applications,organized orientations, did course registrations and served as an on-campus adviser.I coordinated the interview process for UNC students wishing to go abroad and planned visits by foreign representatives to the Study Abroad Office at UNC; likewise conducted site visits of partner universities abroad.

I taught two advanced English-language courses each semester. I developed and taught all courses and was solely responsible for the evaluation and testing of the students.
