I founded an SEMH school in 2019 to create an education system that didn’t try to put square pegs into round holes. We created a supportive family who celebrates that each child is individual and unique. We adopted a trauma informed and psycho educational approach to support young people with social, emotional and mental Health barriers to learning. Our values were at the heart of our curriculum design and featured heavily in day to day life of the school. We were always proud to be independent and led by a strong moral compass. Innovation, nurture and integrity are the drivers for positive outcomes for all of children we work with. We aimed for all our pupils to leave school with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to contribute positively to their communities and lead happy and fulfilled lives. Having set up and developed a strong leadership team, as Proprietor of an SEMH school I always ensured standards were high and our vision and values were embedded in all practise. I now work with other school partners, agencies and local authorities to support and improve outcomes for vulnerable children. I am now in a position to extend my training portfolio and am interested in supporting a wider range of SEMH, mainstream and independent schools, sports clubs and Alternative education providers. I would relish the opportunity to help shape and influence local and national policy to ensure that the most vulnerable pupils in our schools have access to an education that meets their needs leading to brighter futures. Having worked in mainstream schools and trained as a SENCo I know first hand how challenging it can be to work in flexible ways to suit all learners. I also know the impact that this way of learning with pupils can be profound and improve life chances for our most vulnerable pupils. I believe sport and physical activity can play a vital role in this and have seen first hand at at schools I have run and worked with how an increase in sports and activities can have a profound impact on pupils mental health. Working as a team leader in Barnardos I was able to experience and influence the importance in supporting the whole family to achieve long term behavioural changes.I am experienced and skilled in applying for tenders and funding applications. After successfully developing and leading the SEMH school through multiple Ofsted’s (initial inspections, material changes and 3 day inspection) I have a secure understanding and experience in Independent school standards and Ofsted inspections
