I currently serve as GAP's Director of Education & Strategic Partnerships. In this role, I develop and implement a broad range of public education initiatives that foster broader awareness of GAP’s work and the essential role whistleblowers play in promoting government and corporate accountability and strengthening democracy. In addition, I serve as an ambassador for the organization, engaging partners and allies across a wide range of stakeholder groups, including those in academia, private attorneys, NGOs, ethics professionals, whistleblowers, and others in collaborative efforts to advance GAP’s mission.

Serve as a consulting expert, speaker and writer on whistleblowing issues, with particular focus on education and outreach initiatives as well as GAP's advocacy work related to its financial and corporate accountability program. Government Accountability Project (GAP) is the oldest whistleblower advocacy organization in the United States which promotes both corporate and government accountability by offering legal support to whistleblowers and addressing their disclosures through media outreach, congressional and agency oversight, legislative initiatives, and public education. Directed GAP’s American Whistleblower Tour and its Curriculum Project to promote awareness about the importance of whistleblowers through public presentations at more than 30 universities and through developing interdisciplinary curriculum materials with an expert faculty committee for classroom use.

The Hanford Concerns Council was a unique alternative dispute resolution body that operated for more than 10 years resolving health, safety and environmental problems raised by employees, as well as claims of reprisal, at the Hanford nuclear site in Washington state.

Network Fellows connect with a cross-disciplinary group of scholars and practitioners who are currently working independently on issues of institutional corruption as academic research projects or applied within their organizations. I will be studying how the systemic response of institutions to vilify rather than support whistleblowers is itself a form of corruption that perpetuates other forms of corruption, and how instrumental mechanisms such as litigation, alternative dispute resolution, legislation, education, and journalism could be applied towards reforming management behavior that treats employees who raise serious concerns as problems rather than benefits.

Seattle, Wa

Established new academic center at law school dedicated to facilitating dialogue and scholarship on the roles and obligations of corporations in an increasingly privatized and global society. Developed and maintained all infrastructure, outreach, development and programmatic aspects of the Center on Corporations, Law & Society. Organized and facilitated annual corporate board Directors Training Academy, the leading board education program in the Pacific Northwest; developed program and materials, built advisory board, and cultivated sponsors. Built robust educational program known for interdisciplinary conferences and speaker series featuring noted academics, activists and law practitioners. Conducted media appearances, lectured at and developed materials for Continuing Legal Education programs on corporate governance, corporate law and social justice; developed and coordinated Student Fellows program. Served as resource for government representatives, corporate directors, NGOs and academics on corporate and whistleblower law. Wrote and edited op-eds, articles and symposium issues in law and business journals and book series.

Represented whistleblowers who suffered retaliation for reporting environmental abuses, health and safety threats, fraud and other violations of law; also worked to resolve the underlying disclosures to protect the public interest. Ran the organization from 1996-1998 (DC and Seattle offices), then co-directed with focus on Seattle office until 2002.

Responsible for managing programmatic and administrative operations of both Washington and Seattle offices from 1996-1998; co-Directed both offices from 1998-2001. Evaluated and overhauled outdated governance structure and implemented aggressive fiscal and oversight measures to respond to severe financial crisis, moving organization from red to black. Facilitated long-term strategic planning and set organizational priorities; evaluated and managed fiscal, administrative, and programmatic goals and objectives and organizational strengths and weaknesses to ensure sustainability and growth of (then) 25 year national non-profit organization. Supervised a staff of twenty from 1996-1998; supervised a staff of eight from 1998-2002. Developed strong Board of Directors and established culture of active board oversight and governance.
