I help social justice organizations collect and manage data to highlight injustices and deliver social services. Here are some highlights from my client work.The Works, Inc., formerly Neighborhood Preservation Inc. (Memphis, TN):• Built and scaled internal tools for the Emergency Rental Assistance program to monitor case activity as the program expanded from 5,000 to 100,000 applicants using AWS computing services and Airtable.• Built databases and implemented integrations and automations to enable staff to save time on manual tasks and add new capabilities, including sending postcards to all tenants facing eviction, automating legal documentation generation and streamlining communication with landlords and tenants.• Migrated over three million data points from Google Sheets and Airtable to proprietary CRM system, saving thousands of hours of manual data entry time.Abolitionist Law Center (Pittsburgh, PA):• Built a Postgres database and populated the database with over 200,000 criminal court records scraped from the Allegheny County Courts website. • Analyzed the data using R and SQL for a report on racial disparities in sentencing patterns and probation and to respond to ad hoc data requests from partners for information about individuals currently detained for civil rights litigation.Hester Street Collaborative (New York City, NY):• Analyzed and visualized 911 mental health crisis data using R to demonstrate how police use force disproportionately towards individuals and students of color in New York City.• Conducted landscape analysis of publicly available data pertaining to mental health crisis, public healthinfrastructure, and policing in the general population and schools in New York City.• Facilitated stakeholder engagement session to understand and refine how the analytical products could assist multiple partners in advocacy work.

I developed cloud-based infrastructure and ETL pipelines to automate data collection, extraction, and documentation to understand trends and gaps in civil legal aid service delivery in the United States. I also provided analytical support to provide civil legal aid data to internal and external stakeholders.

Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is an independent nonprofit established by Congress in 1974 to provide financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. LSC promotes equal access to justice by providing funding to 134 independent non-profit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories. LSC grantees serve thousands of low-income individuals, children, families, seniors, and veterans in 813 offices in every congressional district.

I co-founded Safe Lane LLC, a software product that applies deep learning to traffic camera feeds to provide real-time and historical analytics on bike lane obstruction patterns. These tools will provide municipal public safety agencies with the information they need to prioritize resourcing and staffing to reduce traffic fatalities.Awarded 1st place ($15,000) in the 2019 DCx Competition hosted by the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer, funding awarded by US Ignite.

Dan was a Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the Science & Technology Policy Institute, where he conducted policy and data analysis to support Federal agencies, focusing on energy, health, and technology. The Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) is a federally-funded research and development center (FFRDC) that provides technical expertise and policy analysis to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and other science-conducting agencies of the federal government. STPI is administered by the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA).

As a research intern, I coauthored a 50-page report ranking 17 global cities on 24 indicators of safe city innovation, including digital infrastructure, use of data analytics, and community engagement. I also contributed to three blog posts published on TechTank covering biotechnology regulations, experimental drug programs, and governance for geoengineering and gene drive technologies. More broadly, I provided research assistance for projects concerning digital technologies for public safety innovation and biopharmaceutical R&D global health investment.

I lead a team of 35 editors, writers, formatters, and publicists to produce a biannual journal of undergraduate research and frequent online content in international affairs. I spent two years pioneering the blog, The Compass, and expanding the organization's engagement with other international affairs organizations on campus.

Carried out independent summer-long research project towards the late-stage functionalization of Erythromycin.

During my semester in Ireland, I conducted research with Professor Guiry's research group at University College Dublin with the following responsibilities and outcomes:• Synthesize organic compounds using metal catalysts to demonstrate the asymmetric synthesis of sterically hindered alpha-arylated ketones• Characterize products using Thin-Layer Chromatography and 1H NMR• Learn the procedures of a synthetic organic chemistry laboratory, including working under inert conditions, optimizing solvent systems, and analyzing reaction and purification methods

The ultimate goal of our research was to determine the structure and function of the various domains of the MID1 protein through three-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies, and to explore the effects of mutations in the domains that are present in various cases of X-Linked Opitz’s G Syndrome (XLOS). • Performed wet-lab biochemical research, utilizing methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), column chromatography, media preparation, protein and DNA gel electrophoresis• Developed proficiency interpreting Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy spectra analysis using computational programs, such as Sparky and relax. • Conducted individual research project to determine the structure of the Midline-1 Fibronectin Type III (FNIII) protein domain and numerous mutations
