GIS support: cartography, data steward, python, SQL, JS web maps, open data, all things spatial.

Migrated the City's GIS shapefile and folder based GIS to a unified geodatabase that enabled instant updates of the ArcGIS Server. During this process I created Python scripts to standardize data and processed the base MXDs to redirect layers from shapefiles to the updated geodatabase feature classes. I created many Python scripts to automate parcel layer updates and simplify data sharing. During the transition to an Asset Management system I wrote scripts to reformat data, create new data for spatial analysis. These scripts took the place of manual solutions that would have involved combing through thousands of rows in excel files. The largest data creation project was combining legacy data sets of fire hydrant locations with the new data set from the asset management system. A series of spatial joins was used to combine the legacy data sets and isolate problems in the data. A final spatial join was used to bring the legacy attribute data in to the locations and asset IDs of fire hydrants in the asset management system. The majority of the hydrants were matches but hundreds of unaccounted for hydrants were int he data. I saved time by using Google Street View to locate hydrants and one full day of field work was all that was needed to solve the remaining problems. The City now has a data set with over 1000 accurately positioned hydrants, an increase from 700 inaccurate hydrants. Between projects I used engineering drawings to increase the accuracy and completeness of the storm water data set, updating attributes and positions of features. I scanned and digitized 100s of pages of old documents.

Designed and populated geodatabase using a GPS unit and as-built drawings. Created maps of the utility systems at the request of the Operation Supervisor, Water Operators, and General Manager. I worked closely with all staff to develop data standards for accuracy, collection protocols and data collection goals. I carefully documented my work and techniques used for efficient map creation and quality control. I also created ‘How To’ guides with detail screen shots to assist developing the skills of other team members to continue to work on the GIS in my absence. Quantitative Summary of first 6 months at the KGID: Positioned: 258 fire hydrants, 723 valves, 471 miscellaneous points to check accuracy and testing, digitized or collected 19 miles of pipes. Added: 470+ annotations, created a house number annotation layer, Tank Zone layer, road annotations, Printed: 5 Map Books (233 pages) and a dozen other miscellaneous maps.Accomplishments at end of second year: Completed mapping water, sewer and storm water system. Set up ArcGIS Online, allowing everyone to access the data remotely on all computers and smart phones. Customized online maps to use our imagery as a basemap, allowing for higher zoom levels, created an automated image tiling process to update the imagery in the future.I implemented numerous efficiency improvements including Attribute Assistant, geometric networking, and data driven pages.

Collected botany and forestry data for numerous research projects for the USFS PSW Research Station. Was selected to work on a special project with a contractor, ground truthing LiDAR data.

Service with the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, Invasive Species Program; During my service I gained experience in everything from public speaking, working in collaborative groups, helping to develop and implement new programs, adaptive management, GIS and GPS, and even driving boats. ·Education and Outreach: Publications, handouts, website content, newspaper articles, classroom education, group presentations to professionals and homeowners ·General office experience: Copier, fax, mail, interoffice communication through email and phones, purchasing program materials within budget. ·Research: Assisted in research for UC Davis, TRPA, Tahoe RCD, leading a project group for the USFS during the Tahoe Baikal Institute's Summer Environmental Exchange program, and as a botany field technician in the summer of 2010 for the USFS Pacific Southwest Research Station. ·Native plants: Familiar with many plants native to the Great Basin, and the Lake Tahoe Basin through some coursework and mostly in the field while at the TRCD and with the US Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station in the summer of 2010.
