CurrentProblem Set: How do you raise the standard of care for the homeless in Downtown Jacksonville while simultaneously revitalize downtown? AccomplishmentsResearch: Established strong working relationships with homeless service providers, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Downtown Advocates. Through personal interviews and researching studies, determined downtown’s homeless population was 38% homeless. Greater Jacksonville Homeless Population costs community $98.5 Million/Annum. Developed Strategy Presentation that City Councilmen and DIA used as framework to begin legislating and effecting new policy. Lobbying: Directly and successfully lobbied City Council President William Gulliford to lead on this sometimes controversial issue.Ground Up Buy-in: Sponsored a plethora of one-on-one and larger group meetings to share findings, learning about the issue first hand and developing trust amongst Homeless Service Providers, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Business Leaders, Residents. This trust lead to a collaborative, long term effort to increase the service level for downtown Jacksonville’s homeless and revitalize downtown. Sponsoring Legislative Forming workshops between all stake- holders to offer legislative framework to revitalize downtown in parallel to addressing longstanding urban homelessness issues.
