I’m an entertainment attorney focused on business and legal affairs for independent film and television creators. As production legal counsel for indie producers of narrative and documentary films, I negotiate and draft option/purchase agreements, above- and below-the-line contracts for onscreen talent and production personnel, loanout agreements, releases, location agreements, license agreements, and contracts documenting many other business transactions and relationships. My practice also includes clearing copyrights and trademark rights in screenplays and literary fiction, setting up business organizations, and advising creative filmmakers on legal issues related to film finance, development, preproduction, production, and distribution.I grew up in the Los Angeles area, and I love great movies and the movie business. I’m passionate about bringing the talents of authors, artists, directors, actors, and producers together to create compelling stories for theatrical and streaming media distribution worldwide. With substantial experience in brand marketing and consumer advertising before law school, I am a skilled strategic thinker comfortable in communications with business executives, account supervisors, and product managers. My education before the law also included studying film direction in a soundstage on the CBS-MTM Studios lot in Studio City. I bring a detailed understanding of production demands and an invaluable creative perspective to the business and legal affairs issues affecting independent producers and filmmakers.I’ve also worked as a civil litigation lawyer, handling all aspects of employment and tort matters from client interviews, document discovery, depositions, and pretrial motions through jury and bench trials in state and federal courts.
