During the pandemic, I became so attached to watching the news, it made realize that I could become a good journalist. I always watched David Muir at 6:30 and loved looking at the studios on TV to see what they were like. I attended Anne Arundel Community College from 2021-2023. During my time at AACC, I joined the student newspaper, the Campus Current. I started out as a reporter. During my time as a reporter I learned how to cover events, write in Associated Press style, and write news articles. Then in January 2022, I was promoted to Editor-in-Chief at 18 years old for the spring semester. The newspaper at the time was digital only because of the pandemic. My first decision as Editor was to bring back the print version. In my role, I oversaw reporters on the Campus Current staff and learned how to edit stories. I mentored the new reporters that joined the newspaper in writing and interviewing. In April 2022, I was nominated for AACC’s 2022 Impact and Excellence award, which recognizes student leadership at AACC. I've always had a passion for sports. I used to play baseball. I loved writing and sports and decided to combine the two. In fall 2022, I then became the paper’s Sports Editor. In that role I covered AACC sporting events and wrote hard and soft news stories for the sports section. I also mentored sports writers on how to conduct interviews properly and the process of writing an article. In my time as Sports Editor. In my role, I enhanced my photography and writing skills, and my knowledge of AP style. In the spring I decided to commit to Virginia Commonwealth University to continue my career in Journalism. As of September 2023, I am a contributing writer for The Commonwealth Times, the student newspaper and a freelancer.
