During my one year internship with UTC, I took on the role of managing customer returned products. Before I began this project, no one else was in charge of it due to the site being relocated and due to staff shortages. At the beginning of my internship, there was over 140 returned products equating to over half of million dollars. I created a managing system that tracked each returned item, the reason why it was returned and what customer returned it. I began leading weekly calls with customer engineers to gather information of the types of failures they were observing out on the field and provided feedback on the status of their return products. Working with cross functional teams to determine the cause of the failures and investigation results leading to product improvement activities, at the end of my internship I was able to report that the site had less than 35 returned products and that the number of returned products for repeated issues was lower due to the product improvements efforts I had worked on.
