-In this role, I was responsible for all aspects of fires planning within the Battalion and externally for integration within large scale combined arms exercises. This included logistical and operational planning within the unit, as well as coordination and deconfliction with civilian and military organizations outside. -Served as the personal representative of the Battalion Commander and special advisor to supported unit commanders--the link between the Battalion and units that we supported.-Served as the Battalion's primary subject matter expert on fire support coordination, rocket artillery employment, and integration of rocket and missile fires; therefore, in addition to conducting operational planning and coordination, I provided informational and instructional training to external agencies/units. -Supervised a detailed assessment and revision of the Battalion's tactical operating procedures.
Artillery Battery Executive Officer
-Supervised the daily operations of a Battery that included over 150 Marines, 50+ vehicles, and hundreds of weapons systems. I was responsible for developing and supervising short and long term training plans, maintenance schedules, and field exercises.-Additionally, I was responsible for improving the leadership abilities, professional skills, and cultural awareness of the Battery's personnel--to include providing classes to the unit's Marines.
Artillery Platoon Commander/Fire Direction Officer
-In this capacity I was responsible for the morale, welfare, development, conduct and training of the platoon's Marines. These responsibilities included maintaining personnel as well as material readiness for over 40 individuals and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.-For the duration of this period, I also served as the Battery Training Officer, developing medium and long range training plans for the larger battery.-During this period, the platoon completed a tour in Afghanistan in support of combat operations.-While deployed, I was fortunate to be directly involved in the development and implementation of new rocket artillery air/space deconfliction measures within Regional Command Southwest. These innovative measures significantly improved the timeliness and efficiency of the employment of indirect fires in our area of responsibility.
