The University of Houston Graphic Alumni Partnership (UH GAP) supports the Graphic Design program at the University of Houston through scholarship fundraising and awareness events. I served in three roles while serving on the UH GAP Board: President, Director of Finance and Fundraising Chairman. President 2009-2013As President I managed and oversaw the UH GAP board from 2009-2013; wrote and ratified a new set of bylaws, drove strategy and direction of the organization; worked and strategized with University staff, raised scholarship funds, helped plan and execute multiple alumni events per yearDirector of Finance/Past President 2013-2018As Finance Director & Past President my primary responsibility was to oversee the overall financial health of the UHGAP and act as advisor to President and liaison between board and the University of Houston. I was also responsible for maintaining the budgets, fundraising and making sure events and scholarships were paid. Fundraising Chair 2007-2009As Fundraising Chair my primary responsibility was to reach out to industry leaders and Alumni to raise funds for scholarships and events.

As Finance Director of AIGA Houston my primary responsibility was to oversee the overall financial health of the chapter and act as advisor to and liaison between chapter board, its officers and chapter financial resources and systems. I was also responsible for maintaining all information pertaining to bookkeeping, the chapter’s checkbook, bank/investment accounts and historical spending records for events. I was also keeper of important documents including insurance forms and non-profit status forms and to act as the guardian of the chapter’s funds, trustee of all accounts and keeper of the chapter’s financial records. Responsibilities also included receiving and dispersing funds and keeping a permanent record of monies received and paid out, as well as assuring that the chapter fulfills financial obligations to state and federal agencies as well as creditors.Responsibilities• File financial reports with National, the IRS & the State• Make sure the chapter’s IRS 990 form is prepared • Prepare and file annual report with AIGA HQ (with President)• Present year-end finance reports to the board• Keep board aware of income and expenses through monthly reports• Determine long-range financial goals• Work with board members to assure financial planning• Act as main contact for financial advisor, insurance agents and accountants• Assure timely payment of all invoices and bills• Issue invoices to sponsors/vendors• Keep accounts in good standing through monthly bookkeeping• Disperse and deposit funds• Prepare profit & loss statements for events/programs• Make cash arrangements for events• Maintain record of cash box transactions• Secure Commercial Liability & Directors and Officers insurance yearly• Sign all contracts, leases & legal documents• Reimburse board members for all approved out-of-pocket expenses• Make sure membership reimbursements are received monthly from AIGA National• Send letters of receipt and W-9 forms to chapter sponsors and donors
