My educational background includes electronics and engineering, which has provided a foundation by which I’ve built more than 37 years of experience in the commercial HVAC control industry. My Pathian® Analysis energy benchmarking patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,719,184) was developed to revolutionize how energy consumption habits are understood. This energy consumption benchmarking process overcomes challenges caused by differences in outside weather conditions, allowing peer group benchmarking, irrespective of geographical location or differences in weather patterns over the time period of analysis. It enables the creation of performance standards for HVAC equipment and components, ushering in a new era in energy management where big data and measurement are the driving force behind decision making in the industry.Using Pathian® Analysis as a tool of evaluation, I also invented and filed for a U.S. patent for Pathian Optimal Building Pressure Control® (POBPC®). The building pressure control process forces all of the mechanical systems of a large commercial building to work together as one machine to control building pressure. This collection of best practices reduces the average large commercial building energy consumption by 20 to 25 percent when operated on a 24/7 basis.
