Continuing to undertake all previous tasks whilst covering a shortfall in staffing. As the only full-time Clinical Engineer with knowledge of all local equipment and procedures I am now additionally:o Assisting with setting the annual medical engineering budget (Operational £100,000, Capital £800,000 and Medical Device Replacement Program £250,000)o Responsible for the EBME capital projects.o Participating in the ‘on call’ service which covers hospital out of hour’s plant/equipment emergencies.o Attending medical evacuations: Preparing, handing and ensuring the correct use and operation of life-saving patient transport equipment from the Islands to South America.o Managing service contracts and organising external service engineer visits.o Responsible for the research, consultation on, and procurement of all new medical equipment.o Provide product training for clinical staff, interviews and agency staff management.o Oversight of and reporting to all members of the Medical Devices Committee on all major issues and procurement progress.

Undertaking PPM/Reactive work on a range of Medical devices from a multitude of manufacturers covering all local hospital departments. Besides 'standard' equipment and Critical Care devices I was responsible for Reactive work on Dental, Radiology and Scientific equipment including but not limited to: dental chairs, analysers and X-ray system/mammography output calibrations and troubleshooting.In a highly adaptive working environment where self-reliance, problem solving and manufacturer communication skills was critical to the timely rectification of breakdowns and/or attempting to reduce equipment down-time as much as possible. Due to the remote location, limited local skills and logistical challenges this is an extremely varied working environment where I experienced a wide ranging knowledge of many medical devices and at least the foundational principles of many more. In-depth, hands-on time with Ventilators, Defibrillators, X-Ray machines, Syringe Drivers, Electric Wheelchairs, Nurse Call Systems with occasional IT and IP Network troubleshooting.Self-teaching the local CMMS (MRI Planet), training other users and database maintenance. Assisting the Senior EBME with the rebuilding of the department and CMMS: wiping the slate clean, full audit (1500 devices), reconstruction of database, writing/scheduling of all PPMs and consolidation of all related documentation creating from which a foundation of all other hospital maintenance can be derived.During this period I was also undertaking, and subsequently passed, a remote-learning FdSc in Medical Equipment Technologies.
