Provides supervision of the WGS/Molecular unit to perform SARS-CoV-2, CDC Pulsenet, and wastewater surveillance testing.Typical Tasks:Coordinates and assess testing performance for the detection and identification of microbial agents for the purpose of assisting in the intervention, definition and control of communicable diseases.Produces, collects and analyzes WGS and dPCR laboratory data.Maintains and administers data sets for QC/QA records, SOPs, and inter-departmental reports.Storage, inventory and ordering of reagents for diagnostic and biological tests.Maintains proper safety precautions and procedures.Training of PHM students and co-workers on testing SOPs.Development of in-house laboratory research by performing varied and specialized examinations using new procedures and apparatus.Performs related work as required.Employment Standards:Possession of valid certificate as a Public Health Microbiologist issued by the State of California Department of Public Health.Knowledge of:The microbiological principles, techniques, equipment, and terminology used in the laboratory diagnosis of disease. The chemical and bacteriological principles, techniques and terminology used in the examination of body fluids, foods and water. The common causes of disease and of the methods of transmission and control of communicable disease, general quality control procedures applicable to the general field of microbiology. General knowledge of available scientific resource material.Ability to:Keep records and make reports.Perform public health laboratory tests skillfully.Work cooperatively and effectively with others.Analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action.Observe safety precautions and procedures.

Transfected Lysate Team Responsibilities include; transfections of production flasks for protein purification, coordination with a team of co-workers, accurate data entry, maintenance of cell lines, preparations of reagents, sterile technique, lysis/purification of target proteins, and the ability to problem solve in a team setting.Whole Cell Lysate TeamResponsibilities include; production of whole cell lysates, nuclear extracts, tissue extracts (mouse and human), tissue harvesting (mouse), preparation of reagents, western blot analysis, accurate data entry, and the ability to problem solve in both a team and autonomous setting.
