The Santa Clara County Public Health Laboratory provides laboratory support, technical assistance, and research required for the diagnosis, investigation, and control of a wide range of infectious diseases for the development and maintenance of high-quality laboratory services for Santa Clara County. The Public Health Lab is under the California Department of Public Health. The team consists of the laboratory director, assistant laboratory director, senior microbiologists, microbiologists, lab technicians and office staff. I provide daily oversight of all high-complexity laboratory testing and ensures compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations including CLIA. In conjunction with the Assistant Laboratory Director, I plan, develop, and implement modified or new testing procedures as needed to protect public health safety from communicable diseases.The Senior Microbiologist is distinguished from the Public Health Microbiologist in that the former has ultimate laboratory testing responsibilities and supervisory authority for all testing within the assigned laboratory section.
