I am employed by Collins Aerospace as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager and I lead a team of Engineers and Project Managers that support all Mission Systems Manufacturing Operations teams in Cedar Rapids. Our responsibilities include: selecting and developing new technology that can improve quality and drive down our manufacturing costs; creating standard work and implementing at our site; and providing manufacturing subject matter expertise. My background is in Electrical Engineering and my passion is making things better. Before I became an Engineering Manager, I was a Manufacturing Electrical Engineer (MEE) for 10+ years and my primary responsibilities were in supporting the test process and making things more cost effective. During this time I worked side by side with Industrial Engineers, but it wasn't until I became a leader that I truly began to understand how important our IE's are to Operations. As a leader, I began to spend more time with the IE's and learning more about their skills and what motivates them. I began to see a very similar passion as mine for making things better, but with a much bigger vision than I originally had. I also learned so much more about the importance of standard work and the IE's desire to utilize their skillset to improve all manufacturing processes from build to test. All this, led me to the role I'm in today, where I am very passionate about allowing this team lead our site in process improvements and standardization. It has been an awesome journey. I've learned a lot along the way, and I look forward to coming to work and learning more each and every day.
