Being a DevOps Engineer at Akamon was interesting because I was able to do a wide range of tasks that were in tune with my ideas on what a good system is.I changed the whole system from AWS EC2 Classic to AWS VPC. While doing so, I also designed and implemented improvement and recovery plans.I also changed the platform to an immutable server system completely automated based on Ansible, Packer and Terraform. The system was also fully monitored with Sensu and most of it also self-healing.To make the new system work smoothly, I had to write a new deployer. The philosophy was to give the developers the keys for the deployments, and let them deploy from the chat, as well as give them the knowledge of the production deployment. The final deployer was faster, more decentralized and more customizable.I also designed and implemented (in Python) a way to take advantage of AWS Spot instances which made the company save in infrastructure budget.As a modern medium-sized infrastructure requires I also implemented a central logging system with ELK and helped the developers to include it in their mindset when programming their apps.Besides architecting and implementing the new system, as a DevOps environment demands, I was also responsible for the day-to-day Ops. I made developers' lives as easy as I could, helping them to evolve to an event/message app environment.

I was in charge of both the office systems and the high availability web systems. Mymain tasks were to : maintain the systems, design improvement and recoveryplans as well as to support users and programmers, regarding hardware andsoftware.In a daily basis, I worked with all the technologies involvedconcerning: the operating system, the file and storage system, the webservices, databases, the e-mail and file sharing systems, among others.As the business required I also designed, implemented and maintained the bulk mail system with bind.I was also in charge of the monitoring (Nagios and Munin), automating (Bash and Python) and evolving the platform.I designed and implemented a virtualization farm based on KVM, libvirt and clvm.We worked with physical servers and all internal and internet facing services were provided by us.In the time I was there I migrated the whole system from one CPD to another. We bought the hardware, tested it and deployed it to a new CPD, making the migrations as smooth as possible.I also designed a migration plan to move the infrastructure from the CPD to AWS.
