I work with companies and their leaders to make sense of who they are, why they do what they do, how their offering is different, and why anyone should care — not to mention spend money on them. Most companies — in fact, most people — want to list all the things they do that are great. "We're fast! Smart! A good value! Cutting edge! Passionate! Customer-centric!" Those may be great things but they are not yet a position, not yet a brand. They're a list. A brand identifies, prioritizes, then weaves all the components — who, what, why, and how — into an argument: "This is what we believe; so we created this; so you, customers, can do that." This is a position, an argument to the world: this is a brand strategy. This then drives the organization — messaging and visual identity, of course; marketing tactics, including social; but also product functions and features, and company culture.
