I am a self-motivated learner. When I started working at Brigham Young University (BYU) as tech support, I realized that I had greater potential than my job required. After working for a few months, I started teaching myself new skills in web development. Over the course of the next three years, I used my web and software development skills to develop websites and software to automate many processes that were done manually in my department.I continued my education and have received my degrees in Computer Engineering and Software Engineering. I used my education to improve development programs and processes. I also continued to teach myself new skills and patterns such as agile methodologies, federated GraphQL, test-driven development, and project management. During my time at HSI, I filled in many roles such as product owner, agile coach, software developer, and software architect. Through these experiences, I have found that I find the most satisfaction when I find ways to improve the efforts of my teammates such as through mentoring, finding or developing tools, and creating processes to streamline work. This has led me to want to develop my skills in software architecture as I have found that a good or bad architecture has significant impact on the quality of any product as well as the teams who maintain it.
