Through my undergraduate education at Southern Illinois University, graduate studies at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, an internship at Wilson Butler Architects, and becoming an Architect Intern at Liollio Architecture, Inc., I have been able to experience architecture and design through many different mindsets and through a variety of mediums. At SIU, I was immersed in courses to develop building technology knowledge, such as building construction classes in wood, concrete, and steel. I was taught how to approach and craft these documents. During tenure in the Master program at UNC Charlotte, I have been exposed to a broader, research based community of professors and fellow students. This has lead me into research into material constraints in classes such as Digital Research and at my previous job at the Digital Arts Center. With my research through making approach, I have had the opportunity to submit and have papers accepted into the ACSA and ACADIA conferences. My time at Wilson Butler gave me experience in seeing how firms approach projects of different scales. I have been able to put my skills learned at my previous schools to work in experiencing the phases of design, from schematic design to construction documents.At Liollio Architecture, I have been able to work on projects as small as a two story renovation in an office building and as large as an airport renovation and addition. These experiences have taught me design, detailing, communication, and teamwork through different scales of projects. I am currently being exposed to CA work at the Charleston International Airport addition and renovation. This experience is invaluable as I am exposed on a daily basis to the other facets of architecture and get to see how our document sets become a space the owner and tenants get to inhabit and enjoy.
