To solve this problem, I put the students first, performed regular ethnographic interviews to identify key problems to be solved, and then designed, created, and marketed cross-cultural programming for over 120 of our Japanese college students each year in partnership with six neighboring colleges and universities. I also led Showa's social media team and built and designed a new institutional website using interviews and a Jobs to be Done framework. I practiced risk management, rapid problem-solving, intercultural advising, language translation. Also, I presented to partner companies and colleges on cross-cultural topics. On two occasions, the director and team selected me to represent my department on business trips to Showa's main campus in Tokyo. -

So, at the age of 22, I found myself teaching 14 junior high school classes each week in a Chiba Prefecture, Japan fishing village so small that it exists neither on LinkedIn nor Facebook. Teaching these daily lessons forced me to improve my presentation style continually. After all, you will never meet more honest critics than a room full of junior high students! My proudest moment came at the end of my time on the JET Program, as three students I had coached won first prize in their respective categories in the 2013 Sanbu District Speech Contest. -
