Rentdodo - Property Management Web Application
CurrentRentDodo is a brand new project which aims to digitalize the Irish rental market by providing all the tools and features required to allow tenants, landlords and agencies to manage their tenancies/properties at ease. As the lead developer, I have been a key instrument since January 2021 in building the entire project from the ground up using NextJS as it's base framework. The project is packed with movement mechanisms, slick UI, and awesome features. We added a new junior developer to the team on January 2022 and it has been my responsibility to train and mention him through the trails of full stack web development. This project has strengthened my skill set and allowed me to develop new skills including communication, security & training. We have a great team which including project managers, testers, designers and developers and we all communicate really well using in person meetings, Slack, Trello & Figma.2023 is looking like an epic year for this project with many companies coming on board and many requested features about to go live.
Goonerbox - Fan Based Arsenal Fc Platform ( Origionally The Arsenal Review )
CurrentInitially, I started this project using Java (Spring Boot), Thymeleaf, HTML, JavaScript & Ajax. I spent about 8-12 weeks on this framework and became proficient at it. It is a great framework, but the tread vs event loop came to light and we swapped to Node, React, Express & Mongo. The app was re-built using this new framework, which was fantastic as the event loop really is king when it comes to server/client request. For the first year the app used basic react which ended up not been good enough for modern days. React needs SSR, and once again the app was built from the ground up with a Isomorphic structure using various React utilities. The team that worked together on this project were amazing. We had marketing, designers, developers, artists and had regular team meetings. Communication was great. You could not find a better pick the team or rate the team game anywhere ( UI ). I became very proficient at UI and got a real solid 2-3 year experience using all sorts of services like Mailjet, Firebase, OneSignal, Cloudinary, SocketIO, etc, etc, etc. The project had a massive amount of custom made feature including comprehensive statistics, messaging, socket updates, complex push notification system & subscription and many many more. The project was amazing, and ran really well, but it never got the millions of regular visitors we needed to keep it running and late 2021 it was pulled and handed over to me. I shut the project down and spent a year rebuilding it from scratch in free time, a evening hour daily usually, with minimal administration and running costs at mine ( 4th time rebuilt from scratch ). Also with the ability to easily deploy for different teams with one code base using different environment variables. I changed the name from The Arsenal Review to GoonerBox to avoid any copyright issues moving forward. This new rebuild is inserting everything I have learnt into one vocal point. The features will slowly come back online over the course of 2023
The Earth Foundation (Fullstack, Ui, React, Nextjs, Mongodb, Mailjet, Cloudinary, Seo)
The Earth Foundation was founded to inspire the youth today to provide there innovative ideas to tackle current global environmental challenges. A prize is awards to the winning team annually. Since its release, Teams from all over the world have competed including Irish team :)I was the lead developer during the initial development sprint from scratch to production. It uses NextJS as it's base framework and had a lot on tricky UI requirements which no UI library in the world could have satisfied. After the project went public successfully, I was reassigned to new projects and various other developers took over. My biggest take from this project was UI. I learned about Styled Components ( Love styled components ) and tackled some insane UI mechanisms which included strange and unique sliding behaviors. No UI These sliding behaviors were really unique ( And awesome ) that no UI library in the world could have helped. After the job was done I had a much greater understanding on manually animating DOM elements using various events This project and The Earth Prize are connectedTop 5 skills used on this project:Front-end developmentNextJSReactCommunicationAnimation

After the project went public successfully, I was reassigned to new projects and various other developers took over. My biggest take from this project was UI. The site required a lot of responsive design to be implemented. On the site we can find many large grid structures, with required careful attention to suit all devices. This project and The Earth Prize are connected.Top 5 skills used on this project:Front-end developmentNextJSReactCommunicationResponsive design ( Implementation )2023 NoteThe project does appear to have lost a tad of quality since I left with images that are too large in file size and responsive areas that no longer respond/render perfectly. I might have to wiggle my way back in there some day to tidy some of these minor issues up.
Judo Assistant
I worked part time at the Galway City School of Judo for 12 months. My responsibilities including # preparing the club, daily (3-4 days weekly) , for the full evening of classes which include children and adults.# I was the sole assistant on site usually to let all the kids in as they arrived and warm them up for the first hour. So that was pretty cool having such a major responsibility. We usually did pretend fights and/or energetic fun games, ninjas they were. I then would assist the trainer when he arrived with the full class. Most the time I was just training myself to be honest. The kids knew more than me in relation to Judo.# I then part took in the adult evening class. Great stuff, really enjoyed it. The owner of this club is a very high lever Judo training (Chris Higgins). He taught me a lot and really helped turned me turn a corner in life. After the year was up I moved onto web development, which jump started my career in software development
