In this multi channel role, I was responsible for developing the knowledge of retail teams in order to drive sell through. This is achieved by creating several engaging channels including digital training platforms, store training sessions, centralised training events and on the hill events in the UK and across Europe.Additionally, I worked alongside the UK Marketing managers to assist with strategic marketing goals. I did this by designing and delivering both consumer and retail facing marketing events in order to drive consumer affinity and engagement.I was also the account manager for a number of core independent outdoor retailers across the UK, supporting the customer through the sell in and sell through process.

Having been employed with Berghaus, part of the Pentland Brands, I was involved inthe creation of the newly opened outlet store. Along with the other stores throughoutthe UK, the Castleford branch provided Berghaus with a platform from which togenerate sell through of clearance items while maintaining the control of the exactingstandards of customer service, product knowledge and accountability that reflectsthe Brand and the products. I worked closely with the Manager and the AreaManager in the reporting of the business and in generating valuable feedback in theform of sell through data, consumer spending, trends and gauging sentiment.

Having initially started work at Outside as part time sales assistant upon my return tothe UK, I was soon made a part of the managerial team within the company. Duringthis time I was able to further develop my sense of the consumer habits within theOutdoor retail sector. As Asst. Manager I worked with brands to ensure theimplementation of marketing campaigns, follow brand guidelines and contribute tofeedback on market trends and closely followed product development within theindustry.

Málaga Area, Spain

I started Camp4 to respond to a lack of dedicated and modern climbing wall facilitiesin southern Spain. I sought funding and assistance via the Spanish Chamber ofCommerce and local business networks. The facility was a bouldering wall, with cafeand a retail shop and I collaborated with other small local adventure businesses. Imade very tough decision to close the business after three years. The business wasgrowing well but unfortunately the Spanish economy made the success of mostsmall start-ups extremely unlikely. I am happy to have achieved what I did given thedifficult nature of creating any business, but more so because of the especiallychallenging environment within Spain at the time.

Chamonix

In this role I was assistant to the Property Manager of a large independent skiholiday company with the running of 50 properties in 10 resorts throughout the Alpsin France. My role was to train staff in basic property maintenance before the seasonstarted and throughout the season, liaise with resort and area managers and Frenchcontractors for bigger works needed. At the beginning and end of every season, wedid the handover/takeover of properties and renegotiated contracts with lettingagents and owners and organised a great number of renovation projects through theinterseason before the main holiday periods.

In between living in Courchevel and Chamonix, I obtained a manager role within thelargest independent ski retailer in the UK. As well as day to day management of thesite I developed the sales by introducing a ski tech service and further developingstaff training with ski brands and using my experience within ski travel to drive salesby leading the team by example. Here I was in almost constant contact with nationalsales and training representatives for major international ski brands

Courchevel

Ski Magic is a very successful independent ski holiday chalet company. Here I wasinvolved in the purchasing of the full ski rental fleet in the UK prior to moving out toFrance to establish the ski rental and tech workshop within one of the companies’chalets and training up the assistant ski techs. We then operated weeklychangeovers with equipment and I was responsible for the sales of packages and allfinances within the department.

Having joined the regiment at the age of 16, I served in Northern Ireland pre andpost the peace treaty. I attended a 3 month pre-deployment training operation toKenya, with emphasis on desert and jungle training as we then went and served inSierra Leone. Having been promoted to Non Commissioned Officer I was a teamcommander in N.I. and a section commander in Africa. I also worked with thedepartment in charge of developing the surveillance equipment for intelligencegathering in Northern Ireland. Here I led a team charged with the trials of theequipment within operations.
