Most recently I joined Unite under the role Building Services Engineer. This role here is unique as it's tailored to the company requirements. I play a crucial part in keeping the building services running. As part of the estates team, I work closely with Facilities maintenance, allocating Routine PPMs in house or to our approved sub-contractors after reviewing tenders, this stems from inception, reviewing Rams and allocating permits right through till completion. I also regularly review and audit our plant rooms, completing detailed asset condition reports, recording all data, prioritizing risk and ultimately building a PPM plan specific to each plant room to prolong life expectancy of assets across 33 London plant rooms, included under this is reviewing of water risk assessment reports to ensure compliance in line with L8 legislation requirements. All works must be signed off on our EMMS (CAFM) system and in accordance with SFG20.I am the point of contact for FM’s and GMs, providing technical support for the on-site teams and reporting to the senior mechanical engineer. The estates team conduct regular meetings to review progress of works, expenditure and costings whilst having “student focus” as our priority

I had been working for myself as a limited company, subcontracting work, installing plumbing and heating systems, carrying out building and property maintenance across Essex and London- out of normal working hours where required. I have managed quotes, orders and payments to wholesalers and clients, quickly gaining a strong administrative and financial acumen. I subbed predominantly from builder’s, landlords and estate agents domestically, with a large percentage being gas biased. Commercially I worked for Arundell HVAC at the outset installing FCU’s, bathrooms and kitchenets in office fit outs which evolved into long term planned maintenance contracts within office buildings, providing regular building maintenance primarily but not limited to AHU’s, FCU’s, Pumps & chillers.

I initially came on board to run the plumbing on a project of 60 new build prestigious homes in Bishop Stortford which led to multiple phases following on. Managing a team of 10, ordering materials, quality control ensuring deadlines were met with all work at a high standard. I was a working supervisor here working on the tools 1st and 2nd fixing time permitting. I also worked on call on a pattern. Attending plumbing emergency’s and solving issues, often going above and beyond to locate and fix leaks and make sure clients had hot water and heating when I left.

I had previously worked on large scale projects with Robinsons and was asked to come over and join a mechanical team fitting district heating systems and full plant room fit outs including sealed cold-water systems and pumped tank rooms.

I was contacted by lend lease with the opportunity to start work on all plumbing facilities at the Olympic village, consisting largely of commercial scale pipework and drainage for the infostructure. When this finished, I was invited to stay on as part of the on-call team responding to any emergency issues and maintenance while the games were on.

I was employed by Benning brothers, provided a vehicle and was completing insurance work due to flood or fire damage in domestic properties often occupied. Here I was estimating job costs for them and keeping residents happy. Re-installing damaged plumbing and heating systems from start to finish.

Here i gained my City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 – although the qualification is plumbing it was primarily decommissioning and completely re-installing plant rooms at a commercial level all over London and surrounding areas, in schools, gyms and hospitals. The install would include reinstating all heating pipework and hot and cold services throughout.
