During my more than 20 years as a professional, I have specialized in the development of strategic plans to achieve carbon neutrality in existing building portfolios, for free. Currently, as Senior Director, I am committed to scaling my knowledge of deep energy retrofit projects to help Public Services and Procurement Canada achieve carbon neutrality in their facilities by 2030 through billion dollar investments in aging infrastructure. We have already planned building retrofit projects to reduce carbon emissions by 45,000 tons, representing close to 50% of the portfolio emissions managed by BGIS on behalf of PSPC. To date, we have received funding to reduce emissions by 15,000 tons and expect further funding to become available in the coming year. All conversions are cost neutral over the life of the building systems because operational savings ensure that cash flow remains positive once the buildings are converted to carbon neutral systems.The team I lead consists of more than 80 energy, architecture, engineering, commissioning, sustainability and project management professionals who provide technical knowledge and support to the capital planning, facility management and project delivery teams responsible for more than 400 federal government facilities.Prior to joining BGIS, my most important achievements were the delivery of practical sustainability solutions, including facilitating LEED design and construction services. More specifically, I have focused on energy conservation of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Projects include geoexchange heating and cooling as well as an extensive deep retrofit program in occupied facilities and an industrial power plant at the University of Ottawa.
