Daniel A. Haddock received his Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology, with a minor in History in 2009 from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. In 2014 he completed his Master’s Degree in Archaeology, at the University of West Florida. During the Master’s program, Daniel gained experience in planning, executing, and interpreting archaeological investigations of shipwrecks. Before joining GEMS in August of 2014, the University of West Florida employed Daniel to assist with archaeological field projects. Daniel was responsible for training and supervising student scientific divers in shallow low-visibility water on projects within the Pensacola Bay region. He helped organize and direct field operations on numerous shipwrecks within the area including the focus of his Master’s thesis, a centerboard schooner from the 19th century. Mr. Haddock also has experience in the proper conservation techniques for waterlogged artifacts. In 2011, Tesla Offshore LLC contracted the University of West Florida to provide divers that were capable of performing archaeological assessments in low-visibility water. Working with Tesla on this project, Daniel documented numerous shipwrecks of the Texas and Louisiana coast over a two week period. Wreck sites included tug boats, WWII oil tankers, and the Civil War vessel U.S.S. Hatteras. During his education as an undergraduate at the University of West Florida, Daniel was awarded the Presidential Award for academic excellence. Mr. Haddock was later awarded the “Partners in Conservation” award for his work with Tesla Offshore LLC. Mr. Haddock has published his Master’s Thesis titled, “Where Fire Meets Water: Archaeological Investigations of the Centerboard Schooner”. He now works for Geoscience Earth and Marine Services as a marine archaeologist.
