I am a partner in King & Spalding's Healthcare practice group and recently completed my six-year term as vice-chair of the AHLA's Regulation, Accreditation and Payment (RAP) practice group. I represent and advise health care providers on all aspects of Medicare reimbursement and the regulation of healthcare, and have done so since joining Dennis Barry's Medicare reimbursement practice over a decade ago. In the past three years alone, I have won final, favorable decisions overturning national CMS policy governing Medicare bad debts, as well as agency denials of new residency program status (worth tens of millions of dollars to each of my clients); provider-based status (also worth many millions of dollars to my client); critical access hospital status; and volume decrease adjustments. I am the co-leader of the legal team responsible for nearly all of Medicare reimbursement appeals filed before the PRRB for one of the largest health systems in the country. Last year I successfully handled my client's response to a DOJ False Claims Act (FCA) investigation based on a novel theory relating to wage data reporting used in formulating hospital wage indices. I am a perennial speaker at AHLA's Institute on Medicare and Medicaid Payment and have presented at multiple other national conferences for the ABA, HFMA, and others. I have published numerous articles for national publications.I was a member of Georgetown University Hospital's Ethics Committee for over a decade and AHLA named me a "Pro Bono Champion" in the area of health law three years in a row (2010-2012).I've been named one of the top litigators under 40 by Benchmark Litigation every year since 2016 (and am the only litigator to list Medicare reimbursement as my specialty), am ranked by Chambers in healthcare, was named a NextGeneration Lawyer in 2019 by Legal500, and was named a Rising Star by Law360 in 2017 and 2016.
