I have worked in education for 15 years. Ten at my current position, two for an outdoor education facility, and three as an aquatics area director for the Boy Scouts of America. I have my B.A. in Biology from Carthage College and my Montessori Certification from the Houston Montessori Center. I was fortunate to be taught directly by world renowned Montessorian Elizabeth "Betsy" Coe.My teaching philosophy has been informed as much by my training and life experiences as it has been informed by the time I spend with my students. I find new joys and interests of my own as I teach and as I see what the students get excited about. I am currently incorporating as much about Earth Science, Recycling, and Climate Change as I can across curriculum areas. I have the students charting data about the climate in math and designing sustainable homes in their science curriculum. I also helped the students convince our administration to get chickens at our urban school in order to understand the concept of food miles and better appreciate where our food comes from. This has lead to the students selling eggs at our class business. I keep the Montessori Philosophy at the core of my choices both in class and outside of school.
