In 2020, I completed my final year of my undergraduate degree in Translational and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa. This program, geared towards high-caliber students with keen minds for biomedical research, has enabled me to acquire a broad range of important technical skills, and an understanding of some of the projects on the cutting edge of science today. In addition to my Honours research project, I have had experience in several different uOttawa laboratories, including in both volunteer and paid positions. Some of my most recent work was on a project which has now been submitted for review to Molecular Biology of the Cell. My other academic interests include political science, philosophy, and Mandarin Chinese, a language which I can now speak with relative confidence. My work experience has been broad, and has thus helped me to acquire a wide range of skills, and become a more well-rounded person. I have worked in numerous service positions, including as a Page in the House of Commons of Canada, and as a Tourism Information Officer in Newfoundland. I have also worked as a Community Organizer with ACORN Ottawa, a position which involved door-to-door and telephone fundraising. All of these experiences have helped me to develop top-notch communication skills in both English and French. I have also been involved in numerous extra-curricular activities during my time in University. I have held important volunteer positions in several political campaigns, including as the primary Handler Coordinator for Lyra Evans, Ontario's first openly transgender provincial candidate, and a managerial position on a uOttawa student union campaign. I have also served as the Vice President External on the Translational and Molecular Medicine Student Association, where my primary role was to organize networking and social events for students in the program. I also sing in the Bass section of the University of Ottawa Choir, which performs classical and folk music for the public every season. I have received several distinctions for community involvement. Prior to starting university, I was named one of 50 community builders in my hometown of Corner Brook, Newfoundland for my participation in local music and theater. I am a recipient of the University of Ottawa Chancellor's Scholarship, valued at twenty-six thousand dollars. I also finished 3rd place in the Chinese Bridge mandarin speaking competition run by the Confucius Institute in Ottawa, and was invited to represent Canada as an observer at the finals in Chang Sha, China.
