I began an internship in January, being selected before a number of other applicants because of the connection I immediately established with the magazine editor, Rod Evans. My tasks included updating and inputting of information, writing book and DVD reviews, and research. I was also responsible for writing a number of articles that were subsequently published in the magazine. For the articles, I was required to do extensive research, interview pertinent experts and compose a piece that had to satisfy length, style and appropriate demands. My responsibilities included beginning the sale with the customer, calculating price quotes, assisting on design choices, and presenting the final product. I often exceeded my responsibilities by actually contributing artwork, collecting the product from the factory in Austin personally, and attracting new customers to the company by talking with peers and other organizations.

I worked to promote the group, create and maintain the website, travel to national cardiology conferences to gather information and physically support our organization. Tasks included indexing and maintaining a large web-based dynamic cardiovascular clinical and basic science slide library, and screening for and posting items on the website and mailing list dailyThe young company needed vitality and commitment, something that I was more than eager to contribute. I was also involved with the national organization SHAPE (Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication - http://www.shapesociety.org/) I was responsible for recording and editing transcripts from the SHAPE meeting in Santa Monica in 2005, which became the new SHAPE guideline. I also assisted in the execution of the SHAPE advisory meeting and walkathon at the AHA in Orlando in 2006.
