Investigates or otherwise assists in resolving complaints of prohibited discrimination against students in educational institutions accepting federal funds in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Boy Scouts of America Equal Access Act and their respective implementing regulations. Major duties include:*Participates in all aspects of complaint investigations including on-site investigations. *Serves as a legal and policy advisor to team members on complex factual and legal issues related to the investigation, negotiation, complaint resolution, compliance reviews and acceptance and monitoring of corrective action agreements. *Mediates complaints of prohibited discrimination.*Represents the Department and OCR in negotiating cases. *Develops investigative reports, complaint resolution letters and negotiated settlements and monitors for compliance of negotiated settlements.

Defended the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) against claims brought under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA); Ensured compliance with the IDEA and DC Municipal Regulations; Prepared discovery and draft pleadings in the furtherance of DCPS’ position in Administrative Hearings and hearings before the Special Master; Prepared necessary appeals to federal district court; Provided advice as requested regarding compliance with class action guidelines, judicial orders and various federal and local statutes as requested; Assisted in DCPS’ representation before the Special Master in a federal district court class action; Served as a member of D.C. Office of the Attorney General’s Diversity Steering Committee.
