The Cologne Fire and Rescue Department provides fire suppression, rescue, EMS, and Haz Mat services.While the position of EMS Lieutenant my assigned duties included assisting the EMS Captain with operational and administrative duties related to the EMS services the department provides. When I was promoted to EMS Captain my duties became managing all aspects of the EMS services the department provided including training, operations and budgeting. Further, I was the administrator for the Firehouse Software program for the department which handled all aspects of records management for the department.My tenure as the Health and Safety Officer/Incident Safety Officer my duties included all OSHA, NFPA and other regulatory/legal compliance for the department. I was responsible for station checks, personnel physicals, respiratory protection and all accident investigations. In my capacity as Safety Officer I was the on-scene safety officer for all emergency responses if I was not in command. As an Assistant Chief my responsibilities included fire investigations, daily operation of the department and grants, incident command of most calls responded to, lead fire investigator for the department, all grant applications and project management, lead training instructor for the department, writing and implementing standard operating procedures and policies as well as assisting the chief in budgeting and administrative duties. I have been involved in grant writing since the early 1990’s. I have successfully written grants worth over $1,000,000 including firefighting vehicles and a regional paging system. I also have been asked to review federal grants on 4 different occasions. I retired from active service in January of 2013 with 21 years but continue to be active in grants.

I conduct safety compliance inspection and condition surveys to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
