Operations Director of the East Midlands Regional Research Delivery Network which is part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The RDN has two primary purposes: to support the successful delivery of high quality research, as an active partner in the research system and to increase capacity and capability of the research delivery infrastructure for the future.

One of 15 Industry Operations Managers across the country. To Lead commercially sponsored and funded research within the East Midlands geography.Current role as the management lead for Study Support Service and Workforce Development.

In early 2012 the industry manager’s role was incorporated into my existing governance role. I oversee and am the point of escalation for all NIHR commercial research across Trent, assessing the feasibility of studies and support across the study life-cycle, leading a team on budget and contract negotiations and performance management.• Ranked 1st out of 25 CLRNs in England for recruitment to time & target into studies that closed in 2012/13. Commercial Activity recruitment to target improved from a position of 20th (out of 25 CLRNs) in December 2011 to 1st at the year-end 2012/13 (only CLRN to reach the 80% green rating with 88%).• The implementation of standardised costs for Acute Trusts across the region to make us increasingly competitive and streamline set up.• Currently ahead of target to achieve 86 commercial trials for 2013/14, exceeded the 2012/13 target of 76 by 13%, with an increase of 41% from the total of 61 for the year 2011/12. • Trent CLRN Industry Event (March 2013) at the East Midlands Conference Centre for approximately 150 participants across Industry, NHS and Academia acting as a catalyst for success.• Development of marketing materials to give an insight and highlight the strengths of our region.• Introduction and roll out of non-commercial costing process at Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and training staff across all 5 acute Trust in Trent• Training and implementation of the new Research and Development Management. Information System (RDMIS) system for Research Governance across Trent from June 2011 to June 2012 contributing to the process at a National level• 6 months bringing together the RM&G team at NUH from May 2011, initiating, supporting and developing Band 7 Managers to implement training initiatives and skills in people management

A new role due to the merger of cancer trial services managing one of 3 trial teams. Role managing 9 staff comprising Nurses, Radiographers, Data Clerk, Clerical Assistant, Trial Submission & Finance staff.• Development of a highly motivated well balanced team through recruitment and selection, performance management and training and mentoring.• Achievement of high level objective to double the recruitment of cancer patients into research studies• Development of skills from my business degree in a practical setting moving a service forward with excellent communication between the team and management.• Responsibility for the running of a treatment area giving chemotherapy and novel treatments.• Part of management team for portfolio studies both commercial and none commercial.• Development of relationships with commercial sponsors and contract research organisations

Setting up a new service coordinating clinical trials in cancer services at Queens Medical Centre and then incorporating a training role• Development of communication networks and implementing systems to improve cancer research.• Recruitment in the first year at QMC doubled assisting in exceeding network targets for entry into trials.• Processing trials through ethics and R&D, recruiting patients in clinics and arranging follow-up and investigations.• Promoting the Network with presentations, newsletters and as a member of the Nursing Research Strategy Group promoting research.• Arranging and carrying out training and support interviews across the Network ensuring competency to do trials, relevant training and support for career progression.• Restructuring and running the MTCRN Induction programme, compiling the KSF post outlines in liaison with all staff groups and developing new courses

14 months caring for neutropenic transplant patients• Using Hickman lines and administering chemotherapy, co-ordinating shifts & mentoring students.• Presenting teaching sessions and educating patients on a nurse led ward with a philosophy of continually evolving care.• Hygiene benchmark lead and resuscitation link nurse

Experience in an acute environment developing acute medical skills• For respiratory conditions competency with the use of non-invasive ventilation, central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring, use of arterial lines and care of the unconscious patient• Management of acute Myocardial Infarction (MI) patients, ECG interpretation, use of pacing wires, inotropic drugs, management of cardiogenic shock & cardiac rehabilitation.

9 months in a forward thinking unit for the Acute Coronary Syndromes.• Assessment and selection of patients on wards for admission to the unit.• Experience with cardiac monitoring, care of the angiogram patient and involvement in audit in accordance with the National Service Frameworks.

2 years caring for the neutropenic patient predominantly with chronic disease.• Use of Hickman lines, venepuncture, cannulation, IV antibiotics and blood products.• Experience in charge, development of communication and counselling skills as well as time management and prioritising.• Nutrition link nurse.

Work involving data analysis in claiming repayments for Health Authorities.
