This project involved conducting extensive experimental research for determining optimal chemical dosing for achieving coagulation and flocculation in the process. The process analysis and optimisation required me to use the Process Engineering skills gained from University, as well as additional Wastewater Engineering skills gained during the placement, to quantify the current fluid mechanics and determine how they could be enhanced to improve reaction efficiency and separation in the process.Additional Projects:- Undertake regular energy balances to quantify and monitor CHP efficiency- Undertake mass balance over the Bioplant- Continually reducing and monitoring polymer usage Show less
Summer Placement
During my placement I took on various projects which included:- Reducing energy usage on-site. Performed an initial Pinch analysis over the process before examining areas of improvement in more detail. Quotes were obtained and project costing was compiled for several potential areas of improvement and presented these to the senior employees on Microsoft PowerPoint.- Analysed brewing data for the previous 12 months to justify the number and size of new maturation vessels to be installed.… Show more During my placement I took on various projects which included:- Reducing energy usage on-site. Quotes were obtained and project costing was compiled for several potential areas of improvement and presented these to the senior employees on Microsoft PowerPoint.- Analysed brewing data for the previous 12 months to justify the number and size of new maturation vessels to be installed. A first presentation was given to my superiors with recommendations; a second presentation was given using their feedback and desired vessel specifications.- A project was outlined and developed for improving the erratic Fermentation temperature profiles on-site. 2 weeks were spent analysing the problem at hand, outlining the project and initiating this project for the next intern to undertake. This internship really pushed and developed my engineering skills and put a great demand on my independent learning skills as I worked on various aspects of a process I hadn’t experienced before. I was also challenged in my presentation and communication skills through the multiple PowerPoint presentations I gave to superiors of varying disciplines, challenging me to tailor how technical or accessible my presentations should be.
