I am Founder of Resource Resolutions, which seeks to reduce conflict around natural resources. I am also Senior Advisor to the Executive Committee of ERM, the world’s largest pure-play sustainability consulting firm, and Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE's Grantham Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. Previously, I founded and ran Critical Resource, which I grew to be a leading provider of advice to energy and resource firms and their investors on ESG, climate change, 'license to operate' and geo-political risks. I sold Critical Resource to ERM in 2020. Prior to Critical Resource, I was an advisor to McKinsey and Rio Tinto leadership on sustainability issues, a senior research fellow at Chatham House on energy geopolitics, and - at the start of my career - resources and environment correspondent at 'The Economist'. Some years ago, I also wrote a book, ‘Empires of Profit’ - a history of the political challenges facing big corporations, from the East India Company onwards.
