CurrentAs a dedicated Towpath Taskforce volunteer, I play an integral role in the upkeep and maintenance of the Lancaster Canal, ensuring that it remains a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for all who use it. My responsibilities are diverse and vital to the overall preservation of the canal. Among my primary duties are litter picking, where I ensure the canal pathways and surrounding areas are free from trash and debris, contributing to the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the area. Additionally, I am involved in lock maintenance, which includes tasks such as painting and preserving the locks to ensure they are fully operational and visually appealing. Another key aspect of my role is the maintenance of vegetation along the canal, where I assist in managing the growth of plants and trees to ensure they do not obstruct the path or waterway, thus preserving the natural beauty of the canal while ensuring accessibility and safety for all visitors.
