I've worked at many levels of a laboratory, starting within a waste water analysis team and quickly moving through the various methods available. I became a Technical Senior Analyst and soon found myself confident performing routine and exploratory maintenance on lab instruments and equipment to ensure they performed optimally. It was here that I also started looking at method development and validation and honing the organisational skills required to successfully complete those objectives. After several new methods had been validated and accredited by UKAS, I moved onto my role as an Application Support Analyst. Being familiar with the LIMS from a user perspective was a great benefit when picking up SQL and MSSQL server, as this allowed me to visualise what the queries and procedures were doing. Able to swiftly pick that up, as well as other bespoke applications, I was first point of contact for the helpdesk role and ensured KPIs were met and exceeded routinely. When the opportunity arose to take what I'd learnt in this role and progress further I took it. As a Project Delivery Coordinator I had to utilise a lot of my communication skills which had previously not been as honed. I needed to ensure that relevant local stakeholders were consulted and their requirements were being passed to story writers to be developed into new features for a specific project with a new LIMS. From here I had to coordinate with developers and testers to ensure everyone was on the same page with the new requirements. My success in this role was recognised and I have now taken on the role of Senior Projects Business Analyst. While incorporating a lot of the same skills and values as my previous role, it's now a larger scale and not just focussed on one singular project. Now leading a team of story writers, I am ensuring that requirements and gaps for a new LIMS are identified on a wider scale and new features are developed within expected timeframes and budgets.
