Argus Consulting | Fundamentals Data Analyst | PetrochemicalsCurrent responsibilities include:- Development of datasets and models to support the forecasting of supply, demand, production costs and refining capacity and margin. - Maintenance and development of fundamentals data and analysis across a range of products relevant to the petrochemicals market. - Working with commodity analysts around the globe to extract maximum value out of data collected across the organisation and to deliver integrated analysis.- Identification of new sources of data to capture within the Argus fundamentals databases.- Supporting the development and commercialization of new data-driven products.- Providing data and analysis in support of monthly and annual petrochemical publications.- Ad-hoc development of models to support projects and publications and to enhance fundamentals analysis within the Consulting team.- Supporting the delivery of consulting projects.

This role was divided between client-based research work and business development. Client projects were centred around the analysis of integrated datasets to answer key technical questions within the industry. A particular highlight was my involvement in the development of leading products for the company. Effective planning and organisation allowed me to positively contribute to a range of projects. My business development responsibilities were focused around the generation of new opportunities for CGG through partnerships with government energy departments. The role involved international travel, implementing new projects, and establishing professional partnerships.

I worked with Endeavour Energy to evaluate one of their key North Sea assets through varying analytical methods. The project acted as my MSc thesis and required self-planning, organisation, and time-management. It included detailed desktop studies, data analysis, geophysical model-building, and commercial aspects such as volumetrics and feasibility studies. Effective project management enabled me to test certain parameters beyond initial objectives and to provide meaningful commercial recommendations for the company. Deliverables included a 10,000-word technical report and an integrated dataset; these both fed into further studies. Multiple presentations were delivered to Endeavour Energy, industry experts, and professors at Imperial College London.

Here, I assisted with Cairn Energy’s exploration in West Greenland. The role focussed on the analysis of regional data to help steer exploration in the South Ungava region. Since the project utilised new data, it involved aspects of data QC and conditioning, analysis, and the presentation of key findings. This gave me valuable experience in methodically working through a project cycle, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary exploration team. Weekly departmental meetings and presentations enabled me to develop my communication skills.

This role was centred around the analysis of 3D/2D seismic data in the North Sea. It involved regional petroleum system studies, seismic interpretation of key stratigraphic surfaces, and the gathering of public domain well data. This provided me with a sound introduction into the oil & gas industry whilst also making me aware of the importance of data conditioning prior to analysis. A particular highlight was my integration into the pre-existing team, and my ability to quickly learn the functionality of certain industry software packages.

This focused on the stratigraphic analysis of core samples taken from lagoon regions within California. A variety of techniques were used to derive changes within the soil core and outline distinct horizons. This provided an insight into the lagoonal processes at work and highlighted the changing depositional environment over time. This provided an introduction to a range of equipment and processes e.g. X-ray diffraction, logging, soil horizon analysis.
