As technical lead I worked with improving our team's development methodology and our product's issue tracking and planning system. As developer I was working on improving the software architecture, failure handling, and build system.For the development methodology part, I explored ways to carry through software maintenance in fast-paced projects. For the architecture part we got help to adopt modern UX techniques, and from the development side we analyzed our code base with Domain-Driven Design based on the user's perspective. We improved the failure handling by means of Google Breakpad and Mozilla Socorro to get easy access to the users' stack traces after a crash. The build system and product OS were first based on several in-house Python scripts and Linux From Scratch but were later replaced with Bitbake and Yocto.I also worked as a sounding board and mentor to younger developers in the office, running coding sessions where we dissected different programming challenges together.

I designed and implemented a gene expression database application to store information of both ill tissue biopsies from artery surgeries and the corresponding anonymized patient records. When the project constantly expanded, the application had to be redesigned and soon became a product similar to FileMaker Pro but with support for gene data such as gene expression ONA arrays, mRNA exon expression, and DNA SNP.

My main responsibility was I/O, taking care of real-time audio, video, file transfer, and serial communication over RS-422 with the Sony 9-pin protocol. We worked close to the development team at SGI in Mountain View CA, helping them as a beta tester develop their new industry standard OpenML.
