About Daniel Markus
I craft with sound. On everything from podcasts to free-jazz albums, I bring a refined ear, technical knowledge, critical editing ability, and experience producing radio and music. I trained in classical and experimental music at Oberlin Conservatory, where I received a B.M. in Technology in Music and Related Arts (TIMARA), one of the premier experimental music programs in the country. I also earned a B.A. in Biochemistry, graduating Phi Beta Kappa.Along with my diverse education, I've pursued a similarly broad range of projects. As a sound engineer and record producer, I have multiple full-length credits as recording engineer, mixing engineer, and producer across a broad range of genres, and have two more records slated for release before the end of 2019.I also spent four years working as a front-of-house at Oberlin, mixing shows and events across venues on campus. I frequently got called to work important concerts, including mixing Margaret Glaspy, Kamaiyah, and Xenia Rubinos. I have experience working on numerous consoles, including Midas Pro 1 and 2, Yamaha QL1, TF5, and LS16, and QSC touchmix.Podcasts give me the opportunity to showcase my full range of talents. As a radio producer with WOBC, I developed and launched the station's first local news show and podcast, which became a syndicated program and remains a staple of the station. I took the show from fledgeling idea to weekly program featuring prominent guests, including Robert Krulwich, Bob Odenkirk, and a former U.S. ambassador. I also handled nearly every possible role, producing and editing scripts, prepping guests, engineering recordings, and repairing audio in post.Currently, I'm freelancing based out of the Washington, D.C., area, and looking to contribute my skills and perspective to podcast, radio, and music projects in New York.
