For as long as I can remember I have been drawn towards challenges and problem solving. Coming into college I could think of no other degree that would develop my problem solving abilities more thoroughly than Physics. The University of St. Thomas helped me reach my personal scientific and technical goals however what I was surprised to find was that as a liberal arts school it helped me develop into a more well-rounded person as well. I learned how to approach complex problems as a science student, how to respect other’s perspectives while thinking critically about my own in my humanities classes, how to be patient and lead others as a teacher’s assistant, how to further my education on my own as a research assistant, and so much more. While my undergraduate degree was invaluable and helped shape me into who I am, I was not sure how to proceed after graduation. I spent a brief stint at the University of Arizona pursing a Master’s in Optical Science. However, I quickly determined the program was not for me and that I would rather enter the work force, which eventually led me to the telecommunications industry. I find telecommunications fascinating and feel that I can apply much of what I learned as an undergraduate to my current position but I’m always looking for that next challenge. I have come to realize that one of the most valuable skills in the tech industry today is the ability program effectively. This realization has driven me to return to St. Thomas to pursue a Master’s in Software Engineering.
